The Natzweiler-Struthof Concentration Camp Memorial invites you to the launch of the book "1944-1945 Struthof", a plunge into this historical investigation through unpublished testimonies and documents. Come and chat with historian and author Frédérique Neau Dufour.
At the end of 1944, as Alsace oscillated between the joy of the Liberation and the fear of the German counter-offensive, the Nazi concentration camp at Natzweiler became the administrative internment camp "Struthof". To purify the region, thousands of men and women from a wide variety of backgrounds were interned here. Elderly people, babies and families lived there in improvised and vague conditions. Why and how was a concentration camp reused by a republic to intern civilians? Who was interned and for what reasons? How was the camp organized, in the midst of the shortages of the late war?
