Exceptional and unique of its kind, this German-French war cemetery is striking. At the height of the fighting, the German soldiers offered a temporary burial to all those who had died for their homeland. In 1916, Ludwig Gebhardt, sculptor, was commissioned by the funeral service to engrave memorial steles on natural rocks in respect of the combatants whatever their nationality.
