An architectural and military site
Located on the heights of Dinsheim-sur-Bruche, Fort of Mutzig will offer you a panoramic view of the start of the Bruche Valley. Furthermore, it is the largest and most powerful fortification in Europe in 1914 and is today a symbol of peace and Franco-German reconciliation.
The visit takes place over 2 km, between engine room, dormitories, kitchen, infirmary, trenches and firing points which offer a superb panoramic view.

Unique in Europe
Saâles, a commune at the southern end of the Bruche valley, was on the border between France and Germany from 1871 to 1918. This is why, a little further north in the valley, Emperor William He built the fort of Mutzig from 1893, to prevent a possible French attack on the Alsace plain.
This incredible work, largely buried in the hill, extends over more than 250 hectares and could accommodate 7 soldiers. Protected by 000 turrets, the fortress was the first to have been concreted and electrified, subsequently serving as a model for other defense systems, such as the Maginot Line.
