The Natzweiler-Struthof Concentration Camp Memorial invites you to the book launch of "1944-1945 Struthof," a dive into this historical investigation through previously unpublished testimonies and documents. Come and chat with historian and author Frédérique Neau Dufour.
At the end of 1944, while Alsace was oscillating between the joy of Liberation and the fear of the German counter-offensive, the Nazi concentration camp of Natzweiler became the administrative internment camp: the "Struthof". To purify the region, thousands of men and women from very diverse backgrounds were interned there. Old people, babies, families lived there in improvised and unclear conditions. Why and how was a concentration camp reused by a Republic to lock up civilians? Who was interned there and for what reasons? How was this camp organized, in the midst of the shortages of the ending war?
