The Donon massif has an exceptional forest. The Donon-Schneeberg sites, mainly forested and located on the ridges or slopes, are dedicated to the protection of certain birds - capercaillie, hazel grouse, woodpeckers, shrikes and peregrine falcons - as well as lynx, wildcat, bats, amphibians, reptiles and insects. In terms of flora, various plants are also protected: taxicolous fern, peat, rock or scree plants. Part of the massif is classified as "Natura 2000", the European program that defines areas for the preservation of remarkable natural environments.
