The Stone Gate

The Porte de Pierre is a strange and fascinating natural monument, a pink sandstone monolith, located in the heart of the forest, in the Donon massif. Many hikers take the trouble to walk for a while, to bathe for a few moments in the beneficial energies of this place and enjoy a moment of contemplation. Made up of three pillars topped with a lintel, the rock forms a double door 5 m high and 7 m wide. This geological curiosity at an altitude of 858 meters has been sculpted by rain, winds and frost. Two large menhirs (now lying down) and cup stones found around it probably testify to the Celtic presence. Was it for them an entry into the forbidden country? A beautiful hike in perspective!
