La Perheux is a magnificent natural area of high altitude meadows, where history meets legend. During the Middle Ages, a time marked by witchcraft trials, the accused, condemned to death was often burned instead of justice at the Col de la Perheux. It is also here that Oberlin had the Altar of the Fatherland erected, around which the surrounding mountain dwellers assembled to celebrate, on July 14, 1790, the great feast of the Federation.
